Chivalry and Egalitarianism

I'm vexed. Aside from the general vexation of being counter-culture and polyamorous while still trying to be a gentleman, I've lately been studying traditional and modern codes of chivalry, and the problem is this:
How is a man to be chivalrous and gentlemanly AND STILL be sensitive to issues of gender equality?
Many of the traditional examples of 'chivalrous' behavior (opening and holding doors, walking on the street side, giving up one's seat and moving the chair under a lady who is about to sit, etc.) are based on the premise that women are naturally weaker creatures and that this 'fact' needs to be catored to.

Some ladies are flattered by such actions. A smaller percentage are offended. It is certainly true that women can open doors themselves, seat themselves, etc.

Often the modern man leaves much to be desired, and I have to feel that it's at least partially because he is unsure of his role in relation to women because of issues like this.

Is chivalry dead? SHOULD it be? Is there a middle ground that is both ethically and socially more satisfying than "just act in a case-by-case basis"?

What do you all think?

Later I might ask about women in the SCA and martial arts and how this adds another level of intensity to this issue, as it seems a good man should neither give a woman a sound drubbing just because he can (in situations WHERE he can, which is not always the case, of course), and neither should he do her the offense of patronizingly NOT fighting her at the level he would against another man...but perhaps we should save that for later...

What is a true Female Warrior to you?

Greetings,

Each of us has in her mind the type of warrior we picture ourselves to be.I am a defender of the unprotected little ones.

Idealistically I am a very strong alpha female in need of protecting those I love from harm. I am a huge fan of Sidney Bristoe (Alias) , and Xenia,of course.I am a student of Shotokan Karate.I am only a lowly yellow belt but it is fun learning.

Realistically. I am an person who loves to stand up for those who can't for themselves.All my "warrior "skills are mostly verbal.LOLIt is soo funny ,as we see ourselves so differently than others see us.
For some women are real life warriors in war, others are advocates,others are imaginary,yet others are warriors in love,in politics,even sex.
Can a woman be a warroir and be a submissive too?What do you think?
Tell us how you see yourself or define yourself.I am really curious to see the responses.

Embrace, followed by a comma

Embrace...,

The gravitational pull between celestial bodies creates a road upon which, scientists say, our little earthly energies can travel. The pull is powerful, and it is invisible.

The pull of energy between people and the many ways we engage our life forces is powerful too. Sometimes the pull toward one thing or another is unexpected and so heavy that we follow it before we've had time to consider its meaning. But more often than not, we feel the pull and resist it, at least long enough to analyze and decide. The decision is cerebral, taking everything we know into account. The pull itself is visceral and does not care what we know.

It's like the moment after an embrace when something makes you want to share a kiss. Two people holding each other a bit longer than friendly affection calls for and both feel some power sitting between them. Analytical creatures that we are we tend to write in a comma after the embrace, giving ourselves time to be rational and reasonable. Slowing up the energy and cooling it off. Giving our counterpart time to back away. The couple might take two steps back and shut down the energy, only to find out 10 years later that the moment had been powerful for the other person too.

I feel that we are moving into a time in the world where trusting the energy we feel, those inexplicable and unexpected forces that come upon us, that moment where the spark in us is enlivened so greatly as to create a road to somewhere new, is going to be critical not only to our success in a given moment but to our survival as creative beings. At some point we have to combine our knowledge with our instinct, and know when to let our instincts lead.

Some days the healthiest thing we can do is just let go and follow the vibration that energizes our souls. Today is one of those days for me and I wish many more of those days for you.

So don't fight the feeling my dears...it might just lead you to a moment of unspeakable bliss.

Greetings all -

I haven't posted here, lately, but I've been writing and thinking and drawing. Now, I've got something tangible to show for my work...

It is with deepest gratitude that I now announce the publication of "Strange Bedfellows - A Cautionary Tale for Times of Global Change". It is the retelling of an amazingly detailed, epic dream that came to me unexpectedly in 1992. Dreaming this story was like watching an intricate and fully developed feature film -- it was awesome, even a little intimidating. And I've worked on and off, for the past 15 years, to manage to get it into print in a format that fully conveys the breadth and depth of the story behind it.

It's an epic tale that belongs to us all. I am simply the steward of its message, and I give thanks for all the assistance I've had in making this into a reality. Hello...

I am new to this tribe but very excited to see what is out there. I love working with swords and martial arts as well as middle eastern dance. I am working on becoming a Tie Chi teacher if all goes well. I love fencing but have not done much of it in many years. I have been dusting off my archery skills with a new recurve bow and arrows. Love target shooting. I hope one day to be good at it but for now I am happy to say I am not chasing too many arrows.

I just wanted to say hi and see what this tribe is all about.

Team Artemis Women's Wrestling Tribe

Team Artemis NYC would like to invite the members of this group to check out our new Women’s Wrestling Club Tribe.

We run a female-managed training meet that is open to all women interested in learning about safe wrestling and grappling. The grappling work starts from a base of Brazilian jiujutsu. We also welcome practitioners other grappling styles, such as judo and Korean wrestling, as well as Western freestyle wrestling. On special occasions, we are visited by high-level guest instructors who give a specific lesson in bjj or other groundfighting arts.

Folks with prior wrestling & grappling experience are encouraged to share their knowledge in a "physical round table" style.

The group will announce our training sessions, competitive meets, promotional activities, and encourage discussion of the grappling arts for competition, fitness, self-defence, and empowerment.

I just ran across this website of local legends from the Isle of Pabay, a small island off the Isle of Skye, Scotland. Because this is written from a more local, folklore perspective it contains some interesting information, including the old Gaelic spellings . . .

The Isle of Skye is where the Warrior Priestess Scatha hosted a training camp for Celtic warriors including the legendary Cu Chulainn; the photo reference shows the Coolin' Mountains in the background, which bare the name of the ancient Hero . . . Anam Cara, Bonnie

2,800-year-old mummy, Caucasian, Shaman, w/ marijuana

2,800-year-old mummy of an apparently Caucasian man found in an ancient tomb.

The well-preserved mummy, that experts said is likely of a shaman in China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, has been under examination since being found in 2003, the Chinese news agency Xinhua reported.

Especially intriguing to the scientists was the presence of a sack of marijuana leaves that archaeologists found buried with the leather-coat bound mummy.

As student of Shamanism and a priestess of the Great Goddess, I am interested in these Mummies for several reasons;

1. They predate the Silk Roads by nearly a thousand years, and give long over due credence to the legends of Bronze Age, East/West trade routes, Scythia and Pazyryk Warriors, Amazon Warriors, and the Caucasian connections to the Mongolian Nomads and their Shamanistic rituals.

2. There literally thousands of recent or undiscovered burials, tombs and mummies interned from the Black Sea, along the Russian steppes to Western China (Altai Mountains, Gobi and Talkamalkan desert). Research of these mummies, tombs and their artifacts has been slow because of the red tape surrounding these countries (Eastern Europe, Russia, China), and China has been reluctant to admit the mummies may be Caucasian. While most the mummies represent various levels of societies, Shaman are more easily identified through the numerous artifacts still used by Mongolian Shaman today, including, Marijuana and Hashish, and other related paraphernalia.

3. Scientists have recently linked the remains of known female horse warriors (Amazons) through DNA testing to living Mongolian Nomads (see PBS Women Warrior link below).

4. I am some how drawn to (past life?) reindeer herding, nomadic cultures, including Yurt living and animistic spirituality. The Elk and/or possibly the Reindeer are my totem animal, which began appearing to me in dreams, journeys and the physical, several years ago (before then I had no real interest in them).

5. I am interested in the Sami (Laplander) tribes of the Scandinavian Circumpolar region, because they just may be the last indigenous, Caucasian, tribal people on earth. They were originally a matriarchal society and still have practicing female Shaman. Further, there seem to be cultural, Artistic and Religious links between the Sami and other Asian Reindeer herding cultures.

Warrior Armoring Ritual-Seattle-Sept 17

Hi gang!

Things stirring in Seattle for Sept 17, Pagan Pride Day.

Kerr Cuhulain will be presenting workshops and leading a warrior ritual for us. For those unfamiliar with him, he is the author of The Wiccan Warrior and Combat Magick which deals (among other aspects) with bringing the warrior consciousness to pagan spiritual practice. He also has an intensive military/law enforcement background and is active bridge-builder between the pagan and law enforcement communities.

I'll be a ritualist for the event -- would be great to look out and see more sisters-in-arms represented among the warriors. I'll post more specifics when I have them, I doubt it's posted yet on the website.

I went to The National Museum of Denmark specifically to study the remains and ritual clothing of the Egtved Girl, but after spending the day with the Curator, Professor Fleming Kaul, it was obvious that she was part of an ancient fertility ritual surrounding the Sun Horse and Sun Ships. More than likely, she represented the Snake Goddess, performing acrobatics and serpentine like movements to reenact the fertilization of the Sun or life force. Portions of the Egtved girls costume are still in use in modern puberty ceremonies of girl in Eastern Europe today. First, if you haven't seen this Nova documentary on the Ice Maiden and Women Horse warriors, do it, it is a must see for any anyone seriously interested in the empowerment of women; the video is available for sale and in most libraries and even video stores. It gives absolute credence to the existence of Amazons and warrior class women. Unfortunately there are no good images of the Ice Maiden, as her nearly perfection preservation and magnificent tattoos began to deteriorate as soon as she was discovered, and she is now pickled in Russia along with Stalin and Lenin. We pulled back carefully the clothing, and on her left arm, the right thumb, and then again on her left shoulder are these amazing tattoos. Creatures just in immediate action poses, and they are in fact twisted oddly at 180 degree angles. They have amazing horns that end in flowers, fantastic creatures. . . For her afterlife, this young woman was beautifully dressed. She wore a 3-foot headdress made of felt, which took up a third of her coffin, and a necklace of wooden camels. Other creatures adorn the headdress. Among them, this mystical griffin. All these carvings were originally coated in gold leaf. . . 'the black headdress was a symbol of the tree of life. We have some indirect evidence for this from the pattern of 15 wooden birds, which were sewn onto it. And we think the tree of life in mythology is supposed to bring universes together. The higher universe of the gods and the universe of humankind come together with this symbol. . . .This gold buckle, retrieved from another tomb, makes the symbolism even clearer. Here, a woman's headdress and branches of the tree of life are intertwined . . . There's no need to imagine how the various details were attached because it was found in tact. It was also an expression of this woman's life. It showed her place in society, her family, and tribe. Anything worn on the head had to be as high and striking as possible, and so the headdress was very large. It was literally a construction . . .
The Ice Maiden's thigh-high riding boots were still supple and only mildly damaged. Her dress, woven from sheep's wool and camel hair, was held at the waist by a braided cord with tassels. It was banded in three colors—the red dye derived from insects, and delicate maroon edged this priceless sheer blouse.

honoring our bellies and wombs and the fire that lives there

Greetings women warriors.
I write from Massachusetts on a chilly October night.
I wrote this summer about my unexplainable work of inner predator and prey and how we do that annihilation, judgment, criticism of ourselves on the inside, sometimes outside, however accidental. That was my warrior work. Now it is the autumn and my work focuses in November on organizing the 8th annual Women's Belly and Womb Conference. 100 women come dressed in red to honor that we have at some point or other as women bled together.

We raise up the Red Tent literally and enter sacred space together. There is drumming, singing, connection, community and truth telling. There is bellydancing, bellypainting, belly breathing, belly herbs, bellyaching and sharing our guts. From workshops, to our entire conference having a healing session, to celebration, to surprises, to a wisewomen's council and finally a women's dance we spend the day together in a way that often changes women in their core for the rest of the year. Our pre-conference class is with Sheri Winston, Maps of the Clitoris, the Truth about Female Anatomy!

This is my original vision of this~ and this is the way that I am a woman warrior.

Our world is calling women to be in our power, our gut-knowing, our truth right now. Women are aching for changes internally and externally. We are facing terrible destruction and disease and growing hardships. Many of us have already lived through inner and outer wars long before now. In spite of this we still long to be in our bodies, know our ecstasy, share our gifts and be present with life as life is occurring. In an unprecedented container, the Women's Belly and Womb Conference deliberately makes space for collective healing. It is not just a learning and informational day. It is a day to make new choices, to come out of denial, to recommit to our visions, our lives through loving our bodies and who we are in this world. It is an unforgettable moment in the life of a woman when she recognizes more of who she is and what is possible in her life. It is fertile ground for transformation. We make space for what needs healing in hearts, bellies, wombs and lives as women.

positive, benign, good willed thoughts for themselves and the Earth
and Humanity on this day. Your thoughts can be of any nature of your
choosing, but remember whatever you focus on will be made manifest
in a relatively faster than anticipated time frame. To some the
occurrences may almost be bordering on the miracle.

All we ask is positive thoughts of love, prosperity, healing,
wealth, kindness, gratitude be focused on.

This UV beam comes into full affect for 17hrs on the 17th of October

Is pregnancy discrimination the final battleground? Let's discuss!

In high school, college and well throughout my twenties, I felt that I could do anything a man could do in our society, and had no reason to believe otherwise. Now that I'm 33 and considering having my first child, I'm becoming really interested in issues related to pregnancy discrimination. These days, I'm seeing pregnancy discrimination in subtle and not so subtle forms everywhere. My own work experience ranges from teaching undergraduate courses while a grad student to a short year that felt long at an investment bank -- now I'm a school teacher, and even in the female-dominated profession of teaching, I have seen what I can only describe as "pregnancy discrimination." From school HR peoples' off-handed comments about how "hiring guys" is always better because the students "respect them more" and they "put more into it" whereas women "put more into" their families to the fact that the top analysts I saw at the bank were nothing less than superhuman if they had kids...yes, pregnancy discrimination is out there, and I think we have to be really vigilant about not letting it become a sort of permanent glass ceiling.

It's no surprise to me that, according to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, pregnancy discrimination complaints have increased by 31 percent over the last decade, from 3,385 complaints in 1992 to 4,449 in 2005. During that same time period, prelitigation settlements have tripled, from $3.7 million to $11.6 million. Most companies are pretty diligent about making sure that these complaints never get to court, because a higher court ruling on this could create...I dunno...true equality in the workplace?

Also, it seems every time you open the newspaper these days, there's an article about how girls are surpassing boys in school from the elementary years on through college. As an educator, I'm glad to hear that girls are doing so well. I expect boys would do better if we could allow them to learn with both sides of their brains, rather than paralyzing them with our peculiar American style of homophobia (but that's another story altogether).

Anyhow, my point is that, if girls are PREPARED to take on powerful roles through their success in education, these pregnancy discrimination issues are going to become MORE AND MORE important...don't you think? I think we owe it to the generations coming up to wage a good legal battle over pregnancy discrimination charges, and to be vocal about it NOW so that the next generation will face fewer professional set backs.

Explaining my unexplainable work of Women in Power

This marks six years now since I began this international women's initiation and from my woman spirit to yours I want to share about this work but it takes me time usually to get into the heart of it. This predator/ prey/ victim/ perpetrator/ power/ disempowered/empowerment work is a language of its own at first so bear with me. In the end we recognize our present work around this. Whether you are drawn here as a path or simply want to know what is happening in the women's world of empowerment work, here is my message to the women who are here.

What is Women in Power? This is a fierce women's container that is both safe and challenging. Most of us have internal voices that can be critical, judgmental and even annihilating that we battle with on the inside. And in the hardest situations occur when this energy can sometimes by accident leak to the outside of us hurting our loved ones and ourselves. Or we are on the look out for where these dark energies may want to hurt us from our past experiences and waste our valuable energy in a kind of vigilance to keep ourselves externally safe not realizing that it comes from an internal predator scaring us inside as we look for it mirrored on the outside. Many of us are just plain scared in a world that is filled with war and violence of our anger and anyone else's. And yet, it is all around us and within us. What are we going to do in the place where we can have more of our power as women in the world and find some gold in our dark places? This is has been one of my life contributions to face our dilemma straight on. It is true descension work but when we come out of it, we are more whole than ever. Whoever thought to look for our goodness in the darkest of all places?

Women in Power is a safe a ritual container where we as women are able to explore and heal some of our darkest shadows. It is where women work on that strange shaming place we sometimes have going even in our best selves where we feel shamed because we judge ourselves as bad, so we act really good and believe still that we are bad. ? How do we rewire here? Sometimes it comes by grace and sometimes we need a place to work with it among the amazing company of other women. But not in the way we've been doing it. It's okay to be the bitch here you always thought you were, on purpose now during the initiation. But imagine too that it is also a place where you are safe. Curious huh? And it is a place where the darkest shadows, the most violent rage, the deepest grief and the most brilliant and authentic joy surfaces. ??? I am not kidding. I've got to be one of the luckiest women in the world to see the miracles that happen here for women. It is brave and courageous work ~ it is gut work, it is real. It is a place that we don't need to apologize for our power and is held with the integrity that in your core you are good once you don't need to fight so hard the knowing of just how bad you could be if you finally revealed the worst of it. If this is confusing to you, it is no wonder because shadow is the place where we have disowned something that we do not want or choose to recognize in ourselves. Then it becomes projected onto others because we fear it in ourselves. Women in Power is about coming home to it all and owning the worst of ourselves to finally get to the best of ourselves.

The work is facilitated by six skilled Shadow Work facilitators and as many as twenty women on staff for 27 participants. It happens only three times a year but women from all over the world have participated. I am an original co-founder of Women in Power so you can look at my website and my profile as I am over twenty years in now with women's empowerment, ritual and community based work.

The work is true liberation work in the most glorious ways. It comes from the premise that at some time in our life we make a vow never to be like the one that hurt you. Smart thinking. But in doing so, we are sometimes left with some interesting backlash that resembles with our power throwing the baby out with the bath water. We can be left with the only archetypal energy that we see as good, kind, giving, and that is what we name here is as prey energy because it often lacks an energy that can confront, stand up to, and be powerful in the face of large energies. Instead it can be sacrificial of one's gift for the benefit of all. Or sometimes we make a vow not to be like the one we judge is weaker (prey) and then we end up in a place where we are missing our more vulnerable aspects of self too although we are able to be strong and guarded warrioresses.
In Women in Power, we tease apart what we judge as healthy and unhealthy aspects of archetypal predator/prey circuitry that interrupts our fuller choices of what is possible at any given moment when we face life situations in order to give you your innate power to be both powerful and vulnerable again. This includes what we are doing with our sexual energies as well. Any place actually that you are not freely able to express or be the powerful woman that you were born to be are given the opportunity of 360 degree choice again about what you want to do and who you are.
But first we need to revisit sometimes our past to find out about that original vow that we made when we lost something of our power. We’ve done the inner child work and maybe laid some boundaries down as warrior to our perpetrator(s) but hardly ever have we journeyed to the place where we OWN the inner perpetrator, inner predator that stalks us on the inside even with our vow not to be like that. Here is where we see women re-establish safety from internally and come to a place where she can revel in her power in all ways as she chooses allowing her innate goodness and not her fear that she is really “bad” to the bone be what leads her life. This lurking fear often is the driving force for us to be good. Let's redefine good and be "good" at being our authentic selves where we are also powerful, giving, courageous, strong, brilliant and bold. Huh? Are we ready for that?

A silent cry from the Ocean of Consciousness

Many readers have mistakenly, and probably due to a cursory reading of the material below, assumed that Mother Earth hints at our destruction as a species in 3-4 years. This is not the case. All She seems to be saying is that around that period the warning that She is giving now will manifest in events that will painfully make it clear that there is something really "big, unusual, and important originating from the level of nature that could potentially have a disastrous effect on the human race. At that moment, the Term "Mother" will take on more of a "real significance" and many will finally suspect and realize that Mother Nature is a BEING of Supreme Divine intelligence of a level that we, Homo sapiens, cannot even remotely fathom.

Elders That Passed

The following is a email that was shared with me that I wanted to share with you.

Gathered from the private collections of historians and philosophers and from long forgotten files in the Library of Congress, the photographs in the book "The Spirit of Indian Women" contradicts the perception that women played a subservient role in Native culture. Portraits of the individual women from pre-reservation era, some identified by name and some unknown, have been collected alongside photos of families, sisters, and mother and daughters. Wisdom, and dignity shine through these still images. smiles are rare but are all the more memorable for their scarcity.

The text was collected from writings of American Indians born before 1910, for whom the nomadic pre-reservation life was a living memory. Sections are devoted to tribal statements and observations of male leaders on the woman's role as a teacher, nurse, and spiritual leader and tribal legends that illustrate the importance of women with quotes from female elders.

While history books will always focus on war and conquest in telling the Native story, The Spirit of Indian Women serves as a reminder that, the the words of Lakota Luther Standing Bear, "It is the mothers, not the warriors, who create a people and guide their destiny."

It is with a sad heart that I let you know about the following Elders who have passed on:

Gladys Tantaquidgeon, 106, died on November 1, 2005, in Montville, Connecticut. Gladys, a medicine woman, was the most revered member of the Mohegan(Mohican)Indian Nation, immortalized in James Fenimore Cooper's "The Last of the Mohicans". She was a 10th generation descendant of the famed Chief Uncas portrayed in that novel, which she dismissed as "historical fiction", telling the Los Angeles Times that "my tribe, obviously, did not die out."
Gladys devoted much of her life to preserving her tribe and its culture, work that helped the Mohegans regain their tribal status in 1994. Today the tribe's Connecticut casino is one of the most successful in the world.

Vine Deloria Jr., 72, died on November 13, 2005 in Denver, Colorado. Vine was regarded as one of the most influential American Indians of the past century, the Yankton Sioux author and activist first gained national attention with his scathing 1969 bestseller "Custer Died for Your Sins", which University of Colorado Indian law expert Charles Wilkinson called "probably the single most influential book ever written on Indian affairs." Native activists credited Vine's speeches, articles, and lobbying with changing federal Indian policy to one of tribal self determination.
The son of an Episcopalian Indian minister, Vine held degrees in theology and law, taught at the University of Colorado, and wrote on a book on Indian medicine men at the time of his death.

May the Creator watch over these Elders as they return to the spirits of their ancestors. May the Creator watch over their families always! Aho!

An odd ailment

Okay so it's not really an ailment. I... *blushes* laugh. Uncontrollably. Whenever I pick up a weapon and begin to spar with someone I just start laughing and can't stop. I generally end up on my knees with tears of laughter rolling down my cheeks and I can't stand it!

I can throw daggers and axes, shoot bows and arrows, even spar against a dummy... but the moment someone else is there I just lose it!

Has anyone else ever had this problem?

One of my most highly treasured books is by Jessica Amanda Salmonson, "the Encyclopedia of Amazons". It may be out of print, but I have appreciated the history and dynamic material, and excellent research, scholarship, and bibliographic resources contained therin! Her website is:

Time to be warriors, we lost our vitamin and herb rights today!

Hi women,
It's been a while since I've had time to write. So this Fair Trade Agreement (CAFTA) passed by a narrow margin and most of the country doesn't know it yet but we have lost our rights to much healthcare (alternative) and our vitamins and herbs through an international treaty that Bush pushed and will sign into law. This I hope is not as how it is being told to me but it is what I understand so far. I would love this to be false actually but the news I am getting is exactly this. This is today's bad news from the grassroots sorry to say but it is serious (July 28,, 2005). Supposedly there was a gag order on the media during this so we could not put up the fight we normally do when this goes through our own government. This is very serious for us women. I had three years of apprenticing in identifying plants but we are going to get closer to the land again to keep ourselves well. This is from one of the emails that I saw last week before it passed.

They are doing it under An International Treaty Law that will supercede a country's own individual choices, and if it passes everything that we believe in will become illegal, from herbs to vitamins (unless the doctor perscribes them), massage, hypnotherapy, or ANY ALTERNATIVE HEALTH THERAPY! This is already in place in Germany and a 4 day supply of Vitamin E cost $80!

Daughters of the Earth that I have been writing to you about along with Women in Power is blossoming into beautiful promising vision soon to be enacted. I am looking forward to many things but most of all a women's council. I am wondering about what question or questions to focus upon and I am taking ideas if you have them. What would you want the women to council on at this time? I am hoping in my heart of hearts that we will take our place (continuously as we alreadydo) and bring forward new visions of courage and hope. We so need it right now. Here is the website.

What is your life vision? Your ultimate end-all vision and purpose? No limit-ation here.

Mine is to create a community where there are houses made from recycled materials and gardens. Lots of art, performance art, etc. Many people coming in to teach classes. A healing center. Sanctuary. A model for the future, merging mainstream with subculture. No barriers, integration of many parts of our society so we may recognize ourselves as the global village. Not us vs. them. I hope to be able to bring what we percieve as outside of us to the inside, the essence of manifestation so there is no illusion of lack. Bring infinity to earth, soil as cosmos, no boundaries.

Its beautiful to recognize your focus in life, what you are consciously working towards. Everyone is a visionary. Whats your vision?

Lunar Fertility Phase period..important!!!

I would like to share this vital information with this tribe. There is alot to learn about so I incourage all to start researching and learining more so to take real responsibility with our bodies and cycles.
It's true, you could get pregnant twice a month... And it's all because of the moon.

Most women watch their cycles and know that mid cycle or biological ovulation is the prime time to fall pregnant in.

What they don't know is that the moon can trigger ovulation and bring on fertililty at any time during the menstrual cycle (including during your period) ... it all depends on what phase the moon was at when you were born. This is your Natal Lunar Phase Fertile Time.

So what exactly is the Natal Lunar Phase Fertile Time?

The term Natal Lunar Phase Fertile Time (re-discovered by Dr Eugene Jonas) refers specifically to the angle between the sun and the moon when you were born.

Each month when the moon returns to this same position (as it was at your birth) it can trigger your body to spontaneously ovulate even if this time occurs outside your normal midcycle fertile time. Now it may not always do this, BUT THE POTENTIAL IS THERE.

If you are on the pill, it is probably a good idea to take your pill so that your are taking the active hormone pills during your lunar fertile time. This reduces the risk of pregnancy occuring through unprotected sex in the bleeding week.

The moon's trigger effect is increased by two factors - stress and sexual intercourse. That is, if you are having sex during your natal lunar phase, the chances of ovulation being triggered are increased.

Your Natal Lunar Phase Fertile time is completely individual to you because it is calculated from your birth data .

Synchronising you biological cycle to your lunar cycle can be beneficial.
For example if you are trying to avoid pregnancy it is essential to know when your natal lunar fertile time occurs so you are prepared.

If you are trying to fall pregnant, synchronising your cycle maximises your chance of falling pregnant at your fertile time.
Most women watch their cycles and know that their mid cycle or biological ovulation is the prime time to fall pregnant in.

What they don't know is that the moon can trigger ovulation and bring on fertility at any time during the menstrual cycle.

This phenomena is called the natal lunar fertile phase or lunar phase cycle.

Francesa Naish from her book The Lunar Cycle page 19 - 20 tells us "Over and over in clinical use of the lunar phase cycle instances have occurred where this cycle seemingly explains otherwise puzzling phenomena. Conceptions have always been known to occur when medical tests of fertility claim they are totally or nearly impossible. These times include during menstruation, during pregnancy or on the Pill.

Many women feel sure they know when they have conceived, only to be told by doctors that they are mistaken. Ultrasounds often give results that show the progress of the pregnancy to be 1-2 weeks at variance with the expectations of the doctor.

Many women feel sure that they know when they ovulate, have regular cycles, and yet have conceived against their wishes. These conceptions occur at times when they are quite sure they are safe.

Doctors have traditionally felt that these instances result from the woman making a mistake of one kind or another, and doubtless many of them do. However it is also possible that a further factor in fertility namely the lunar cycle, may be behind these seemingly 'erroneous' cases"

The lunar cycle or natal lunar fertile phase was rediscovered by Czech psychiatrist Dr Eugene Jonas in the 1950's. Dr Jonas was a catholic who lived close to the border of Hungary where abortion was legal. Abortion had been legalised in 1956 in Hungary due to the high failure rate of the rhythm method.

Dr Jonas observed the frequent failure of the rhythm method and the detrimental psychological effects on his patients first hand. He sought to discover why the rhythm method had such a high failure rate. His interests in astrology led him to ancient writings which stated that "women are fertile during a certain phase of the moon"... But which phase of the moon?

Through further research, study and calculation he discovered that the lunar phase at which a woman was fertile depended on the relationship between the sun and the moon at the moment she was born
Dr Jonas put forward three rules governing conception.

A woman is fertile each month at the same lunar phase under which she was born. That is, you are fertile at that time of your cycle when the moon is at the same lunar phase as when you were born - regardless of where that time falls within your menstrual cycle.
The sex of a child is determined by the position of the moon at conception.
The viability of a pregnancy and foetus is dependent upon the configuration of the nearer celestial bodies.
Dr Jonas continued to study and research these theories under a great deal of opposition and ridicule. The scientific community had difficulty (and still do) coming to grips with his theories as they were based on astrology or cosmobiology. (Cosmobiology is concerned with the demonstrable and physiological effects of certain planetary bodies rather than the interpretation of symbology of the planets.)

Dr Jonas' clinical studies were based on the premise that the natal lunar fertile time was the only time a woman would conceive - he did not take into account mid-cycle or hormonal ovulation. Astra International, a private clinic in Vienna using Dr Jonas' single fertile time premise had a success rate of 80 - 85% contraception if abstinence is practiced only during lunar fertile times.

Another doctor - Dr Rechnitz applied Dr Jonas' theories independently. Being a director of a women's clinic in Budapest, he was greatly interested in the possible patterns in the times of conception, viability of pregnancy, sex selection and a more reliable form of non invasive contraception. Combining Dr Jonas first rule with knowledge of mid cycle or hormonal ovulation and developing a two fertile time rule, Dr reichnitz used this two fertile time rule in studies, these tests produced a 98% success rate for birth control. Compare this to user success rates of other common forms of birth control - condoms 93 - 98%, Pill 93 - 99%, Diaphragm 80 - 97%.

In 1970, Astra's scientific board evaluated the results of a survey done by 1252 women using the two fertile time method - the success rate was 97.7%.

Whilst more comprehensive scientific research needs to be done to provide more statistical evidence of these findings, the existence of the lunar phase phenomena cannot be ignored. Whether it is used to avoid or achieve pregnancy it is a valuable noninvasive tool that all women can use to improve their fertility management.

Birthing a new baby vision

This is a birth announcement really of a woman's dreaming. I've been having this dream at night for two months now and like most of my work, I birthed a baby vision (in writing) that I wanted to share with you. This is how life works for me. I get instructions and then I follow them by enacting the dream into action. We can do this women. This is year 19 for me! It is part of my warrior path to simply have the courage to enact our dreams.

In 24 hours of birth announcement, 15 women have already come forward to teach, help and play as I still head on my trip to northern Wales. Phew. On Friday, I leave for work with women for two weeks in a row. My 17 year old daughter who is coming with me this time for Women in Power; Initiating the Predator Within looked at my to do list and said, "Whose mother would have *Order buffalo skins on it?" (They were for drummaking with 2nd year of Priestess Path on my return.) Thanks men for supporting our women's visions as we redream the world. Jungian Archetypes

I don't know how many of you study Psychology(hello I am new on the list by the way), but I find it fascinating to look at the Jungian Archetype of the Warrior for this list from a Jungian standpoint. There are four quarters that Jung talks about...the first the King/Queen, the Warrior, the Magician and the Lovers. I think that the key that he got at, was to try and balance all of these things within the psyche. According to this website, the Warrior is a defense mechanism,(from what I can gather) that protects the "I AM', sets boundaries in relationships and boundaries in the self. Pretty much guards the Ego.
I am wondering at all the personalities that are on this list. Warrior is heavily in my subconscious...drawn to tough female energy, although I am one in real life as well. Was an athlete when I was younger, was a crash and rescure firefighter in the Navy, worked in a mental hospital where there were physical altercations and I had to take people down. Always been that way. HOWEVER I was also an abused woman. I wonder how many of us are. It would seem the Warrior archetype is all about boundaries and all abouc causes.

Haven't been a part of tribe.net for long. I've always been told I was a warrior from the first time I punched my older brother in the nose, mostly I just tell it like i feel it and that seems to get me in trouble from time to time, plus the fact that I'm a little on the tall side, 5'10"!
